This week we celebrate family! Family is one of the most important things in my life. When life is great, my family is there laughing along with me, and during my lowest moments, my family is there to surround and protect me. Family Time celebrates my family and I hope it will help you celebrate your family as well.

Included in this digital kit are 24 soft, gorgeous papers – 15 patterns and 9 solids. The elements in this kit are amazing and varied! There are so many elements! Included is a full .abr brush set and .png files with stamps inspired by the kit in a clean and stampy look. In addition there is 1 family rules subway stop sign filled with life lessons, 1 family circle mat, 1 family circle mat as a tree, and a plain circle mat, a set of birds on a wire, 2 damask stamps, 3 rolled flowers, 1 worn leaf, 3 large silk flowers, 6 small flowers, 2 pieces of lace 6 ribbons, 4 pieces of string, 1 long stitch, 5 buttons, 1 hinge, 4 journaling mats, 6 frames, 1 journaling stamp, 1 hanging heart tag with and without love, 6 small tags, 1 eyelet, and 3 alphabets – 1 is uppercase metal and the other two include full upper and lowers with the following special characters:  @ { [ ^ $ ! • Download Kim’s A Day in the Life quick page and unzip. (Your download will be saved to your computer as a zip file. A zip file is a set of files compressed into the smallest possible form for downloading. To open your file, you will need to unzip the file. To unzip, simply double click. If double clicking doesn’t work, you may need to download a program like WinZip.)
• Open Photoshop or PSE
• To open the quick page go to FILE>Open
• Browse to the quick page, select it by clicking, and then click open

• Once the file opens, create a duplicate file (We do this so we don’t accidentally write over the original file) by selecting IMAGE>duplicate

• Close the original
• Open the photograph you want to use: FILE>open

Now you will need to move your photograph onto the quick page do this by

• making sure the move tool is selected
• make sure the photograph layer is highlighted
• then click and hold anywhere within the photograph and drag the photo onto the other canvas

Now the photo is on the correct canvas but we need to move the photograph down one layer.

• click and hold on the photograph layer while dragging it below the quick page layer

The photograph is now below the quick page, but it’s still not perfect. I need to adjust the photograph’s position.

To adjust the size of the photograph we will use the transform command

• EDIT>transform>scale  (ctrl-T)
• a bounding box will appear around the photograph, move the cursor to one of the corners – when you see arrows pointing to the corners of the canvas, hold down the shift key, and drag in until your photograph is the  correct size.

If you need to rotate the image, the transform tool can do that as well simple select rotate (hitting ctrl-T will allow you to scale and rotate an image without having to select them separately.)

• EDIT>transform>rotate

Now that the picture is ready to go, we will want to add some text to the page.

• select the top-most layer (the quick page layer) by clicking on it in the layers palette

By selecting the top layer now, our text layer will form on the top of the image so we may see the text as we type.

• Select the type tool
• Using the type options bar, you may set the font, size, color – or you can adjust these items later
• Type your journaling

I make changes to my text layers after I’ve finished typing because I prefer using the Character Palette to the type options shown above. You may edit your type either way. In order to edit the type using the type options above the text tool must be selected and the text you want to alter highlighted. Using the Character Palette, I don’t have to worry about highlighting because any edits I make apply to the entire text layer. To edit your text layer using the Character Palette, make sure the Character Palette is visible.

• WINDOWS>show>character

As you see there are many type options in the Character Palette.

• To change the font’s color, click on the colored rectangle to the side of color
• Select the color you want for your text
• Using the move tool, move your text to the desired position and adjust font size
• You may transform your text as well

Once you have your text completed and are happy with your photo placement your page is finished! There are 3 different formats you may use to save. Select .psd or .tiff if you want to keep your layout in layers. (This is a good option if you think you might want to edit your page again later.) If you don’t want to edit your page further, then save your image as a level 10 .jpeg. A jpeg file is flat so you will not be able to adjust layers in the future.

• EDIT>save as yournameforyourpage
