Clipping Masks

June 11, 2010 by Penny 2 Comments

This tutorial discusses how to use blending and frame masks in your digital scrapbooking projects.

For this tutorial I will use Picture Play – Blending Masks to create this layout:

1. select the mask you want to use and position it on your canvas

2. Drag your photograph/paper onto the canvas over the masking layer:

3. Clip your photograph/paper to the mask by selecting: ctrl-G (PSE) or ctrl-alt-G (PS)

4. Once you are satisfied with your clipped image, merge the two layers by selecting them (ctrl-click) and then ctrl-E to merge the layers together

5. Then adjust the image’s layer mode, brightness/contrast, opacity to your liking (For my image – I duplicated the layer and set the top layer to hard light 66% opacity and the lower layer to Multiply 53% opacity)

For more information about using layer modes see my blend mode tutorial.

That’s it! Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll do my best to answer them!
